I was walking through the East Village to the LES the other day and I came across something strange to see in New York City. It was an enormous fenced-in playground hidden by trees and bushes with an endless suppliy of toys and things to preocupy children. It reminded me of Michael Jackson's Neverland and kind of creeped me out. If I had something like this when I was a kid, I would have probably loved it. Instead, I climbed trees in my big back yard and used my imagination. This was a funny sight to see in Manhattan.
Verrrrry curious.

Imagination is one of those childhood traits that seem to have gone by the wayside in the last twenty years or so. I sometimes find it shocking that playgrounds exist at all, being as so many kids seem to prefer Nintendo or whatever over and above that mystical land called "outside" that folks like you and I regularly traversed in our youths.
That said, this particular playground is, indeed, very creepy. Great photography work though...the fact that all the pictures were taken through that fence grating really hammered home the strange "oasis/prison" vibe the whole area gave off.
Good for a laugh, too. My interest is piqued -- I'm checking out more of your blog.
